Tracking Sensations

The first step in refining the language of the reptilian brain is practicing tuning in to bodily sensations and starting to articulate them.
In the most basic sense, this could be as simple as noticing when you have to use the bathroom, when you need to drink water or what food your body truly needs. While the goal is to be able to tune into much more subtle sensations while going about daily activities, sometimes even these more basic sensations can go unnoticed on a hectic day.
There are reasons we tune out our body sensations; if we were continually aware of every single one, they would take over our attention to the point where we might not be able to function normally in the world. However, if we can bring a balanced sense of presence to our bodies while we go about our daily lives, we’ll find that we are able to take signals from our bodies that will help us to function more efficiently, with more vibrant life force and health. We also will find we can recover more easily when things go awry.
The same goes for the experience of labor and birth; when our clients stay present with their body sensations, they come into direct communication with their primal brains, opening the channels for the force of labor to function efficiently and healthfully and fostering the capacity to experience more resiliency in situations when the process goes off track.
